The Opportunity
This is an amazing opportunity to join CGD at an early stage and work within the applications engineering team as they grow in both size and capability. The applications engineering team are responsible for the introduction of leading edge GaN products into various sectors including power supplies, mobile chargers and adapters, and many other consumer, industrial and automotive applications.
Main Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Director of Applications Engineering, you will work in close collaboration with sales, business development, marketing, system engineering and product development as well as with our regional teams to:
- Support the development of high performance and high-density power converter demonstrators and reference boards with HV and LV GaN products for consumer, industrial and automotive applications
- Understand customers’ platforms, their trends and how our GaN devices will help them achieve their system goals
- Provide outstanding technical application support to our customers, offering a real hands on approach to the development of bespoke hardware, reference design development and novel feature validation
- Keep up to date with the competition. Ensure we understand the strengths & weaknesses of alternative solutions, performing part benchmarking & competitor analysis working closely with our world-class device designers to ensure we maintain our advantage.
- Support technical applications training to internal teams, external partners and customers
- Spread the word by creating high quality application notes, white papers, design guides and other technical documents
- Provide a significant contribution to our product roadmap development and how we best support this from Application Engineering.

Skills and Experience

You are also interested in driving new requirements in CGD target markets and in sharing your knowledge and experience within the team.
Essential
- A degree in Electrical Engineering or in a similar technical subject
- Some experience of power electronics and switch mode power supplies
- Some experience with electronics circuit simulation software
- Experience in measuring/characterising devices and AC/DC or DC/DC converters
- Hands-on ‘in-lab’ measurement experience
- A high self-motivation with a result-oriented approach
- Excellent communication skills and motivation to collaborate with multiple stakeholders
- Good understanding of how to prioritise, work to tough timescales and deliver on time.
- Fluent English communication skills
