The Opportunity
We are currently seeking experienced scientists and analysts to join our team and to help develop our meteorological and contrail modelling capabilities. This role requires you to collaborate with our science and engineering teams to strengthen our contrail evolution modelling and scientific validation capabilities. You will be expected to understand, communicate, implement, and validate leading scientific methods and models from academia as well as enhance and validate our own datasets.
Our ideal candidate should be capable of working in a fast-paced environment with excellent team skills and a demonstrated ability towards rapid prototyping of research developments. You will need to be comfortable presenting scientific methods and results to technical and non-technical audiences including engagement with customers.

Main Responsibilities
- Validate the outputs from our meteorological and contrail models, ensuring that model performance can be quantified against available observational data
- Contribute to and enhance our contrail modelling capability, using insights from model validation to focus developments within our NWP modelling capability and contrail forecasting algorithms
- Communicate methods and results of contrail modelling to internal and external parties in both written and verbal form, to support interpretation and use of the product
- Diagnose bugs and collaborate with the engineering team to resolve any issues
- Keep an up to date understanding of developments in the academic community related to contrail modelling and validation and be able to communicate internally how this should influence our product development
- Take a scientific method-based approach to product development, ensuring that model design choices and validation results are documented and justifiable
- Interact with customers to answer scientific queries and aid interpretation of the product
Requirements
Skills and Experience
We are looking for multiple roles across Earth Observation and cloud physics modelling, so if you feel your skills are more suited to one side of the role, we still want to hear from you.
Essential
- Masters or Ph.D. in atmospheric science, meteorology, physics or similar discipline
- Deep understanding of meteorology demonstrated by research experience
- Experience in one or both of the following, demonstrated by research experience:
- Using Earth Observation data for model validation – both satellite-based and in-situ measurements
- Modelling of cloud physics
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills, including writing and presenting to both academic and non-technical audiences
- Expertise in Python
- Excellent collaborative skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities while also providing guidance on prioritisation
Desirable
- Experience working with models of contrail evolution and radiative effects
- Experience in other programming languages such as C++ and Fortran
