Research Associate (Materials Chemist) Permanent

Illumina have an excellent opportunity for Materials Chemist on a 12 month fixed term contract to assist with research and/or development activities, in cross-team, cross-site collaborations, on company projects.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Conduct research under general direction of supervisor
• Help plan, conduct, analyse, interpret, and report recommendations based on tested experimental results
• Anticipate and recognize potential problems. Work to understand and resolve any issues to minimize impact on success of project.
• Assesses information to ensure data sufficiency, completeness of results, and suggest future direction
• Help write experimental reports, summaries and protocols for supervisors and other team members as appropriate
• Ability to work early evening hours to collaborate by teleconference with offices in California

Requirements

• Proficient laboratory skills and knowledge of standard synthetic and analytical techniques used in organic/polymer/materials chemistry
• An understanding of surface properties and materials and fluorescence based assays.
• Detail-oriented, organized, have the ability to implement protocols, and keep good notes electronically and in a lab notebook
• Experience with organic chemistry, synthetic polymer chemistry and/or surface chemistry
• Good communication and presentation skills
• Experience of working in an industrial setting would be advantageous
• Familiar with use of, or ability to be trained on using, cryogenics and pressurised gases

Education

• Ideally a First degree (Bachelors or equivalent) in Chemistry, Materials Science, or Nanotechnology
