Scope of the role:
You will be joining us as a Lead Developer in a new sprint team based in Cambridge tasked with creating Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications. You will work with domain experts and customers of these services to enhance our popular bioinformatics software (BaseSpace) to the next level of its evolution. This will involve liaising with a variety of stakeholders to specify, design and implement core services and product-enhancing features in Illumina’s cloud platform.
We work using a flavour of Agile/Scrum and collaborate with our US colleagues using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). As a staff developer, you would be expected to uphold and drive the process, possibly playing the role of Scrum Master. You will build and also manage a small team (2-5) of developers and testers; we are actively recruiting for these positions now.
With day-to-day activities spanning the whole development life-cycle, you’ll also work with the test engineers to identify opportunities to bolster the automated testing within the continuous integration system, and ensure you see your ideas through to completion. Illumina’s cloud platform makes heavy use of Amazon Web Services, including S3, EC2, CloudFront, RedShift as well as cloud/DevOps technologies like Docker and Ansible, so you’ll need to have a grasp of how to work with a cloud-based technology stack.
Most importantly you will have an opportunity to be part of multidisciplinary projects delivering products that make a difference to people’s lives!
About you:
At Illumina, we recognise that enthusiasm and an ability to think through problems are as valuable as experience with specific technologies. – Project and line management in software development, including Agile practices
– Cross-site and interdisciplinary working
– Working within a software development team to achieve delivery of version releases according to planned schedules, and in compliance with a Quality Management System
Any of the following skills are also desirable:
